This raises important questions about the quality of life for those with chronic illnesses and the role of healthcare systems in supporting them. The author, who lives with Type 1 diabetes and long COVID, reflects on the case of Kiano Vafaeian, a 26-year-old man granted MAID due to his severe physical and mental health conditions. The author argues that while MAID may provide a solution for some, it is not a comprehensive answer to the challenges faced by those with chronic illnesses. The healthcare system's failure to adequately support and accommodate individuals with chronic illnesses is a significant issue.
